The historic Reeves-Sain Drug Store reopened in Murfreesboro this month. The store first opened in 1980, when pharmacists Richard Reeves and Ron Powell originally opened the pharmacy as Reeves Powell Drug Store.
The store moved to its current location in 1989 at 1801 Memorial Blvd Murfreesboro, TN. In 1994, Rick Sain bought out Ron Powell and Shane Reeves bought out Richard Reeves, his father.
Reeves Sain saw major growth of the company over the next 20+ years and sold to Fred’s in 2015. Fred’s promised to keep the name, the staff, and everything the same. Unfortunately, Fred’s filed bankruptcy 3 & ½ years later leading to the 2023 reopening of the historical Murfreesboro pharmacy, soda shoppe, gift shop, and post office by Rick Sain and is partners.
Before opening Rick’s team decided to give the building a facelift. Rick is excited about his new partnership with local pharmacists Taylor Black and Mark Moore. Taylor’s focus is more of the everyday filling of prescriptions. Mark is focused more on the compounding aspect in Reeves Sain’s state-of-the art compound lab. Rick’s son Alec, a pharmacist as well, is doing more of the clinical parts of pharmacy and has truly been an asset through the whole re-start.
Laura Gossett and her team from the Tasty Table are running the Soda Shoppe and have been making a lot of milkshakes and serving up lunches in the 32 seat facility. Susan Grear with The Write Impression and her team are managing the gift area. The Post Office is still in the works, but coming soon!!!
Having Tasty Table and The Write Impression managing the food and gifts allows Reeves Sain to focus more on the pharmacy/ healthcare of patients as mentioned above. The immunizations and travel vaccines are going to continue to be a big part of what Reeves Sain continues do. In fact, you may have seen where they built out a new patient room just for that. Their free delivery to all of Rutherford County is already been a big plus as well for many patients that cannot get out and drive across town, etc.
One of Rick’s final comments to us in terms of the reopening was, “It has been unbelievable. This community is awesome! I just love Murfreesboro and Rutherford County. Everyone has been super supportive!!”
